When it comes to scientific papers, one of the biggest checks and balances is peer review. This process of having other scientists review and critique a paper before it is published is meant to ensure that the data and conclusions are sound.
When it comes to blog posts, however, there is no equivalent process in place. This has led some scientists to question whether blogs can be peer reviewed in the same way as traditional papers.
In theory, a blog could be peer reviewed in the same way as a paper. First, the author would submit their post to a journal for publication.
Then, other scientists would read and critique the post. Finally, if they agreed with the author’s findings, they would likely endorse it.
However, in practice this process is not always followed. In many cases, journals simply publish any post that is submitted to them without giving it any thorough scrutiny.
This means that the conclusions presented in a blog post may not be accurate or reliable.
This issue has led some scientists to question whether blogs can ever be considered legitimate sources of scientific information. While this question remains open for debate, it is clear that more rigorous peer review procedures are needed when it comes to blog posts.
