Julia Child may have been a renowned chef and icon, but she apparently didn’t much care for Julie’s blog. In a now-deleted tweet, the famed cook and restaurateur called the blog “garbage” and said that she wouldn’t “give a fig” about what it had to say. This kerfuffle seems to have started when Julie tweeted about a peculiar looking dish that Julia had cooked on her show, which involved shaving off the crust of a pie before filling it with custard.
Julia responded with an unimpressed “yuck” and “ugh.” Needless to say, the online feud between these two culinary titans was born.
While it’s clear that Julia didn’t appreciate Julie’s critique, it’s also possible that she was just being dismissive. After all, her show focused on teaching people how to cook delicious meals, not on providing lengthy critiques of others’ work.
It’s possible that Julia’s disdain was simply born out of annoyance rather than any real dislike for Julie. In the end, this feud seems to be little more than a petty spat between two women who are far better suited to arguing about their cooking techniques than their personal opinions.
