Is My Blog Name Taken?

There are numerous reasons why someone may want to know if a blog name is taken. Maybe they are considering starting a blog and don’t want their name to be taken.

Maybe they are working on a new blog and don’t want the old one to take off first. Maybe they just want to be sure that no one is already using the name they have chosen.

If you are thinking of starting a blog, it’s always a good idea to check to make sure that the name you have chosen is not already in use. There are several ways to do this:

1. Go to Google and type in the name of your proposed blog.

If there are any results, click on the links that appear underneath the search bar. If there are no results, your name may be taken.

2. Check the website for your proposed blog’s domain (e.g.,, myblogname.

com). If someone has registered the domain name before you, it might be unavailable or difficult to purchase.

3. Ask around – friends, family, online contacts – if anyone knows of a blog with the same name as yours that is already in operation, they can likely tell you whether or not it is available for purchase or if it has been registered by someone else under that name.

If you decide that your proposed blog name is not available, there are several possible alternatives you can consider:

1. Choose a different title – this could be something completely different (e.g.

, “Small Business Tips”), or something more descriptive (e.g., “How I Built My Business”). Use a phrase instead of a full word – e.g.

, “The Best Blog Posts on [topic]” instead of “My Blog Name Is [topic].” This will help to distinguish your blog from others with the same title and also make it easier for people who search for information about [topic] online to find your blog rather than dozens of other blogs with the same title as yours but about [different topics]. Choose a similar-sounding but different-looking title – e.g.

, “How To [title] Like A Pro” instead of “My Blog Name Is [title].” This will help people unfamiliar with your proposed blog name find it more easily when searching for information online about [title] topics.
