What Is Blog Rap?

Blog rap is a genre of hip-hop music that is based on the blogosphere. Its lyrics are often written by and about bloggers, and its beats are typically produced by beatmakers who are also bloggers themselves.

The genre’s name comes from the fact that many of its tracks are based on popular blog posts or rap lyrics from blogs that have been sampled or interpolated into new songs. .

While some blog rap tracks are simply reworkings of existing songs with a blog feel, others are completely original compositions that explore the unique lyrical and sonic possibilities that can be created when a rapper speaks to and about the blogging community. Many of the genre’s most well-known artists, including Danny Brown, Action Bronson, and Chance the Rapper, have released solo albums that are primarily composed of blog rap tracks.

The popularity of blog rap has led to the emergence of festivals dedicated to its appreciation, including the annual Blog World Music Festival in New York City and the upcoming South By Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Additionally, several online platforms have been created specifically for showcasing and promoting blog rap music, including The Hype Machine and Rap Radar.

While it is still a relatively young genre, there is no doubt that it is growing rapidly in popularity and influence.
