What Is Huffington Post Blog?

Huffington Post Blog, Inc. is an American news and opinion website founded by Arianna Huffington on May 9, 2005.

It is headquartered in New York City and has a global presence with staff in London, Beijing, Istanbul, Seoul, Johannesburg and Mexico City. The Huffington Post has a reported daily readership of over 20 million people and is one of the most widely cited news sources on the internet.

The Huffington Post generally provides a liberal platform, and as such is frequently criticized by conservatives. In 2011 it was purchased by AOL for $315 million.

The site has since made a number of strategic acquisitions, including TechCrunch and The Wirecutter. In June 2013, HuffPost became a subsidiary of AOL.

Huffington Post Blog was created in order to provide an outlet for bloggers that did not fit within the confines of mainstream media outlets. In its early years the site helped to popularize the term “blogger” and gave rise to notable bloggers such as TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington and Gawker Media’s Nick Denton.
