Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that allows users to send and read short messages, known as tweets, direct messages, or “tweets.” Registered users can post tweets and follow other users to receive updates about their tweets.
Twitter users are also able to post links and images, and share public posts with their followers. Twitter is free to use for individuals, schools, businesses, and non-profit organizations.
Twitter announced in November 2013 that it would begin using a new format for displaying tweets called “tweetcards.” The new layout includes a list of tweets on the left side of the screen with large images in the middle.
The right side of the screen shows related information such as the user’s name, profile picture, and list of followers. The tweetcards will be available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Finnish, Danish, Turkish, Russian, Japanese and Chinese.
