Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog made about $4 million in revenue in its first year of release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The blog is a web series created by comedian and writer Neil Patrick Harris that follows the lives of two awkward friends – one a nerdy scientist, the other a washed-up, talentless singer – as they navigate their way through life in the 21st century. The series features original songs and sketches written by Harris and directed by Emmy-award winning director James Burrows.
The success of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog may be due in part to its clever writing and humor, as well as its strong cast of performers – including Harris, Felicia Day (The Guild), Nathan Fillion (Castle), and composer/lyricist Robert Lopez (Parenthood).
Additionally, the series was released just as online streaming services were becoming more prevalent, giving it an advantage over other web series vying for viewers’ attention.
